The Thai version of mayhem in peacetime, Muay Thai must have inspired Indiana Jones’s theme song, “Anything Goes.” Elbows, knees, shins, feet and fists are blended into devastating harmony to produce a martial art second to none. Strictly a spectator sport for Wall Street analysts, it should be tried only by the foolish or the infallible. Thai boxing has taken on all styles of pugilism and (literally) floored them. Although the ancient pre-bout rituals add the right amount of mysticism to the contests, fans will probably get more kicks from the frenzied gambling before the action starts. The bout lasts just five three-minute rounds, with breaks of two minutes. You’ll soon see why it’s so short.
