The main temple, Wat Phra That Haripunchai, and the museum just across the main street are the premier attractions at Lamphun. The museum is small enough not to stultify, goes back to the city’s beginnings and includes (beneath the main hall) a collection of stone inscriptions in various languages. There are brief translations, but the stones are worth seeing simply as works of art in their own right. The circular design on many of them is the date of inscription, each according to one of a maddening variety of lunar calendars.
